FIRST COMBINED TPP COMMISSIONED IN GEORGIA



H.E. Nodar Khaduri, Minister of Finance of Georgia attended the launch of a state-of-the-art thermal power plant (TPP) of 237 mgw capacity in Gardabani on July 22, 2015.
H.E. Irakli Gharibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia greeted the guests at the launch of the first TPP of combined cycle, constructed with the funding of the Partnership Fund (PF) and Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC). In the official address he spoke about the development of energy sector, significance of the energy security of the country and congratulated the audience with the commissioning of the innovative enterprise.

“I am convinced that Gardabani TPP will bring a great benefit to our country. It will be a solid basis of energy security of Georgia” noted Prime Minister of Georgia.
Along with the Executive Government Members and other invitees he had a tour around the newly commissioned Gardabani TPP, its steam turbine, power energy sub-stations, transformation zones and administrative building of the enterprise.

Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the implementation of the project to the construction company – the largest Turkish company Calik Energy. This project is a role model of cooperation and friendship between Georgia and Turkey” stated the Head of the Executive Government of Georgia.

PF and GOGC funded construction of the TPP launched in January 2014. Established capacity of Gardabani TPP operating with a combined cycle is almost twice as much as any other TPP operating with natural gas and will thus be more cost-effective.
