EU AND GIZ CONFERENCE ON PARLIAMENTARY AND EXTERNAL FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT



H.E. Nodar Khaduri, Minister of Finance of Georgia attended a Conference organized by EU and GIZ on Parliamentary and External Financial Oversight at Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Tbilisi on November 17, 2015.

Topics discussed at the conference included capacity building of the Parliament of Georgia in the control and oversight of the State Budget, independence of the State Audit Office (SAO). In addition, conference participants talked about the need to establish such effective internal control system that would ensure the optimal, effective and efficient application of the budget allocations within the programs endorsed by the Parliament of Georgia.

“Today we have had a significant event, which was organized with support of our partners – EU and GIZ. You may well be aware, that Parliament of Georgia is the supreme legislative and supervision body, one of the key institutions in public funds management (PFM), which adopts the State Budget and controls its execution. Similar to the SAO, internal audit that is coordinated by the Ministry of Finance are actively engaged in the process to make sure that each spending item of the budget is effective and generates the maximum gain” noted the Minister of Finance.

Representatives of the Parliament, Government, SAO, EU Delegation, EU Twinning Project experts and GIZ in South Caucasus PFM Project and Federal Audit Office of Germany were actively engaged in the discussions.
