Georgia and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a loan agreement providing 250 million USD in financing for the construction of the Tbilisi Bypass Road.
The agreement was signed by H.E. Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance of Georgia and Lesley Bearman Lahm, ADB Country Director for Georgia Resident Mission.
The project envisages the construction of an approximately 18.9-kilometre, four-lane section of the Tbilisi Bypass Road, featuring a central median. Specifically, the financing will support two sections of the bypass: Lot 4 (Tbilisi Airport–Lochini) and Lot 5 (Lochini–Rustavi).
The project is of strategic importance for the development of Georgia’s transport network. The new highway will help reduce traffic congestion in the capital, improve the safety of transit traffic and increase the capacity of the country’s key transport corridors.
The signing ceremony was attended by Revaz Sokhadze, Minister of Infrastructure; Ekaterine Guntsadze, Deputy Minister of Finance; Levan Darakhvelidze, Chairman of the Roads Department along with MOF, MOI and ADB officials.
The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia through the Roads Department.
